Name That Pup

The TowerCares Foundation is a proud supporter of Hero Dogs, a local non-profit that trains and places service dogs with disabled Veterans and first responders. We were given a unique opportunity to name one of the Hero Dogs in the latest litter. We decided to choose our puppy’s name from a selection of military heroes, and the winning puppy name is (drum roll please)…Derby!

Derby was named in honor of Chief Operator Grace Derby Banker, who led a Signal Corps Telephone Operators Unit during World War I. The operators provided critical assistance with connecting phone calls and translating conversations between French and American troops. Ms. Banker received the Distinguished Service Medal on May 26, 1919 in recognition of her leadership.
