2022 Tower Classic Golf Tournament Raises Over $60,000 for the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center
The annual golf tournament, hosted by the TowerCares Foundation, raised the highest amount in the event’s history, with all proceeds going to help critically ill children and their families receiving care at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, Baltimore’s local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital.
[Laurel, MD]—When she was just three days old, Louisa arrived at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center (JHCC), Baltimore’s local Children’s Miracle Network hospital. She was diagnosed with congenital ileal atresia, a condition where her large and small intestines had not formed together, and underwent surgery at four days old. Just after her first birthday, Louisa was back at the Children’s Center. Part of her intestine was not functioning properly, and she was becoming septic. By the time she was two years old, little Louisa had endured four major abdominal intestinal surgeries.
Today, thanks in large part to the extraordinary care she received at JHCC, Louisa is an energetic, healthy five-year old girl who loves horses and wants to become a veterinarian. She is a Children’s Miracle Network Child Ambassador.
Proceeds from the June 3 Tower Classic Golf Tournament, hosted by the TowerCares Foundation and sponsored by Tower Federal Credit Union, will help provide critical resources for children like Louisa receiving care at JHCC. Over 90 golfers participated in this year’s tournament, held at Renditions Golf Club in Davidsonville, Md.
The event raised over $60,000 for the Children’s Center—the highest amount raised in the event’s history. Louisa, along with her mom and grandmother, were special guests at the tournament.
“I am beyond thrilled that the tournament was such a success,” said Rick Stafford, President of the TowerCares Foundation. “It was a beautiful sunny day and all of the golfers were in the spirit of giving and supporting the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. Assisting children in need is an important part of the TowerCares mission and we are honored to provide this donation for the Children’s Center in recognition of the critical work they do every day to help children in need and their families.”
Stafford added, “We also want to thank CO-OP Financial Services for once again providing a $10,000 match through Miracle Match, and for all of the tournament sponsors, donors and volunteers who helped contribute to the day’s success.” The CO-OP Miracle Match Program is a philanthropic matching program that encourages credit unions to create and participate in local Children’s Miracle Network fundraisers.
“The Johns Hopkins Children’s Center is so grateful for the unwavering support of the TowerCares Foundation through their annual golf tournament,” said Cynthia Palacz, Director of Corporate Engagement and Events for JHCC. “Despite the many challenges over the past few years, TowerCares continues to reach new heights for our kids. The funds raised will be invaluable in helping our care providers deliver the best treatment possible for our patients and families, and allow kids to be kids while receiving treatment.”
As a special memento of the day, Stafford presented each player with a commemorative TowerCares challenge coin.
“The challenge coins were a small token of our appreciation for all of the players and sponsors for their participation in this year’s tournament,” Stafford said. “The day would not have been such a success without everyone’s generosity and enthusiastic support.”
Since 1998, the TowerCares Foundation and Tower Federal Credit Union have together donated close to a million dollars to the Children’s Center. To learn more about the TowerCares Foundation mission and the charities we support, visit our Who We Support page.
